From at least 1997 to the present manufacturing as a percentage of total US GDP has been falling. But the total output in dollars has been growing.

And since 2010 employment in manufacturing has been rising steadily.  Employment in manufacturing is clearly not what it used to be in the US but still plays a huge role in our economy.
