Quick Tip – How many hours is a lot on a forklift?
Forklifts track hours just like a car tracks miles.
Forklift buyers want to know how many is a lot to avoid buying a machine that won’t last a long time.
BUT!!! The first question to ask is how much is the forklift used in a week? If it’s only used an hour or two per week, then 10,000 hours on a used forklift isn’t that much.
Adding an hour or two per week is only 50-100 hours per year. It will take 10 years to add 1000 hours at the high range.
We’re only going up to 11,000 hours in 10 years. In that time the forklift will only need 4 oil changes!
If the forklift is going to be used for a full shift every day then 10,000 hours could be considered a lot of hours.
The user in this example will add 2000 hours per year, so after three years the forklift will have 16,000 hours and will require repairs much too often for a all day use.
So the question about how many hours is a lot all depends on usage.
